Intent
At St Giles, children are encouraged to enjoy Physical Education first. A culture nurturing a love for sport will support children to see the benefits of being physically active and healthy in mind, body and spirit.
Implementation
Pupils at St Giles C of E Academy participate in high quality PE and sporting activities. Our PE curriculum incorporates a variety of sports to ensure all children develop the confidence and appreciation of their own abilities and areas that require improvement.
St Giles C of E Academy will be expected to:
- Deliver 2 PE sessions per week.
- Deliver quality teaching of a range of sports such as: dance, gymnastics, football, swimming and OAA.
- Allow children to experience competitive situations through competitions, in and outside of school.
- All staff will be good role models in leading an active and healthy lifestyle.
- All staff will display good subject knowledge in areas of PE which they deliver.
- All staff will differentiate, taking into account the needs of their children.
- All staff will continually use their teacher judgements to increase attainment within lessons.
- Offer opportunities for staff to develop their CPD whereby they can learn from experienced coaches.
- Offer a range of extra -curricular clubs for children.
- Encourage children identified as inactive within school to take part in more physical activity.
- Celebrate sporting achievements regularly.
2025 West Yorkshire X-Country
From the Wakefield School Sports Event, 6 of our children qualifies as Wild Cards to represent their district. The results are as follows:
- Year 3 boy came 3rd in Wakefield
- Year 4 girl came 5th in Wakefield
- Year 4 boy came 9th in Wakefield
- Year 5 girl came 11th in Wakefield
- Year 6 girl came 1st in Wakefield
- Year 6 boy came 10th in Wakefield
Year 6 Girls Transition
Our Year 6 girls made new friends and began getting high school ready. We spent the afternoon playing football against other schools in the area.
KS1 Multi-Skills Festival
Our KS1 children enjoyed a morning of activity, making new friends and trying their best at the Football Factory.
Balanceability
Our KS1 children learn new skills to help keep them safe when cycling.
Yorkshire Gymnastics
One of our Year 5 pupils represented Yorkshire coming 2nd in his tumbling category.

UKS2 Dodgeball Festival
Our UKS2 children represented school amazingly as part of the Pontefract Academies Trust dodgeball festival.
KS1 Football Festival
As Autumn 1 ends, we’ve wrapped up a busy half term of school sport with our KS1 footballers.
Organised by the Pontefract Academies Trust our children took part in a variety of skill based events, coming 3rd overall.

Wakefield District X- Country
Our amazing KS2 Qualifiers represented the school amazingly running roughly 1000m in LKS2 with our UKS2 children powering through 1500m.
We have 6 qualifiers to represent Wakefield at Temple Newsam on March 6th.
St Giles LKS2 Football
Our boys represented the school brilliantly at our first Pontefract Academies Trust Competition of the year.

Our UKS2 children have qualified for the Wakefield Schools X Country Competition.
